Everybody tells tales of what healthcare would be like if Obamacare were repealed. But hardly anybody tells the stories about people who suffered because of Obamacare. Mary Katherine Ham of The Federalist and CNN is one and it came during a devastating part of her life. She talks to Jay and Neal about her story and also about what Republicans can, cannot or won’t do going forward with attempting to either repeal or replace Obamacare.

Thank you for this example of the law of unintended consequences (at least I hope they were unintended). Unlike Mary Katherine, I had 29 years of corporate employee health coverage when I was laid off. I investigated the ACA alternatives then, and elected COBRA. Now that the COBRA is about to expire, there are even fewer alternatives. The private market has been eviscerated by the ACA. 20 years ago small employers and the self employed could get “corporate” style coverage under industry trade group sponsorship or directly from the carriers – those are gone. Why can’t the Congress amend to allow/encourage the open “market place” rather than the government “market place?” (oh, what a shame that Article 1, Section 10 is applicable only to the states!)
